Montréal, June 10, 2020 — On June 4, Anges Québec honoured three award winners at Rendez-vous Annuel 2020, presented by RBC and Investissement Québec, which exceptionally took the form of a virtual ceremony this year.

Company of the Year

MEDFAR Clinical Solutions won the Company of the Year category. Founded in 2010 by two aeronautical engineers, MEDFAR Clinical Solutions is a Montréal-based company that has developed MYLE, the first 100% web-based electronic medical record (EMR) approved in Québec and the only complete virtual care management solution. MYLE provides a complete, collaborative and efficient solution for medical teams.

MEDFAR’s inspiring and visionary team is fully committed to its mission of transforming the way healthcare is delivered. MEDFAR has taken an innovative approach to rapidly become the industry leader in the province and grow internationally, earning it the Company of the Year Award.

"It is a great honor for my partner Patrick Issid, the entire MEDFAR team and myself to see our vision and efforts rewarded today," said Elias Farah, co-founder and CEO of MEDFAR. "We are grateful for Anges Québec’s contribution to the success of MEDFAR. I would also like to thank the employees of MEDFAR, especially those who have been with us since 2014, when Anges Québec made its investment. MEDFAR has experienced phenomenal growth over the past few years and it is thanks in part to the dedication of our team and the trust of Anges Québec that we will continue to achieve our ambitious objectives".

Investment of the Year

The Investment of the Year Award was presented to Laflamme Aéro, a Chaudière-Appalaches company that has developed LX300™, a customizable and remotely controllable helicopter for industrial and military use.  This prize is awarded to the company that successfully completed a round of financing during the year ending May 15, 2020 and that distinguished itself by the amount invested, the number of Anges Québec members who invested and the total value of the round.

The co-founders, brothers Enrick and David Laflamme, said they were honoured:

"We would like to thank the angels, as well as Investissement Québec and Anges Québec Capital for their confidence. We are very pleased to have found bold partners to help us develop and market the aviation of tomorrow”.

Angel of the Year

The Angel of the Year Award is given to a member in recognition of his or her involvement and commitment, both within our organization and with entrepreneurs, the entrepreneurial ecosystem, and his or her great contribution to the influence of Anges Québec.  They must be a very active and committed investor in the companies in which they invest.

The Angel of the Year Award was presented to investor Marcel Larochelle, a member of Anges Québec since 2015. Through his involvement, his entrepreneurial approach and the lasting contribution he has made to Anges Québec, Marcel Larochelle fully demonstrates the value of investing on a human scale.

"I’m very touched by this recognition.  What we do here changes the lives of so many people.  Obviously the entrepreneurs we support, but also the people who get jobs in these businesses, the families of all these people, the clients who use their product or service and the people of Québec in general, who benefit from this wealth creation," said Marcel Larochelle.

Conferences focused on the current context

The Anges Québec awards ceremony followed the Rendez-vous Annuel 2020, a content event where three conferences were presented by distinguished guests.

Angel investor Pierre Chadi, Chairman of the Boards of Directors of Pivot 88, Keatext, Carré Technologies and RESAAS, opened the event with a conference on the different ways angel investors can get through the current economic crisis.

This was followed by a conference given by former dragon and CEO of Anges Québec Capital 2, Serge Beauchemin, during which he shared advice and best business practices for entrepreneurs to help them deal with the crisis.

Clément Gignac, Chief Economist and Vice-President of Investments at Industrial Alliance, closed the event by presenting an overview of the evolution of the stock markets in a context of crisis.

The event proved to be a resounding success despite the mandatory virtual context, attracting over 200 participants.

A successful "virtual premiere" for Anges Québec!
