We invest in people
Who are the angels?
Our angels are seasoned entrepreneurs who have known great success in business, as well as leaders in their industry. They are high-net-worth individuals who are carefully selected and who must be qualified investors according to the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF).
What are the angels looking for?
The angels all share the same goal: the success of the companies in which they invest in. Since venture capital investments come with their share of risks, the angels seek to gain a significant return on their investments. In innovative ventures, they aim to gain a return of approximately 10 times their investment in the span of 4 to 7 years.
Some of our investment terms
- Board of directors
One of these key conditions for an investment is the creation of a board of directors counting 5 seats : two of which are granted to the company's management team, two to Anges Québec investors, and one granted to an independent, chosen by the other 4 directors. We believe that having a presence on the board is the best way to add real value for the entrepreneur and the company.
Valuing a startup is not an exact science and could be compared more to an art. The innovative startups that knock on our door usually have pre-money valuations between 2 and 5 million, but this can vary depending on the sector of activity. The important thing when valuing your startup is to build a coherent, logical and grounded argument, to justify its valuation.
In exchange for the capital invested, angels obtain shares of the company. It is important to remember that the goal of the angels is not to take control of the company, but to offer smart capital. In a standard transaction, angels will acquire between 20 and 30 percent of a company's share.
The term sheet contains several other investment terms and conditions, all of which are subject to negotiation. Anges Québec always seeks to create win-win situations, where both entrepreneurs and angels will be satisfied with the investment terms and conditions.
